PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim Munir visit Bannu to review anti-terrorism operations

WEBDESK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, are visiting Bannu today on Saturday, security sources confirmed.

According to the sources, the visit focuses on reviewing the ongoing operations against terrorism in the region. Both civil and military leadership are expected to assess the progress of security measures and discuss the way forward.

During the visit, the Prime Minister and the Army Chief will be briefed on the counter-terrorism strategy. Security officials said that important decisions may be taken regarding the future course of action against militant networks.

The joint presence of the country’s political and military leadership highlights Pakistan’s resolve to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace in affected areas.

On the other hand Security forces killed 35 militants in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between 10 and 13 September, the military’s media wing said on Saturday. Twelve soldiers embraced martyrdom during the clashes.

According to ISPR, an intelligence-based operation was carried out in Bajaur district after reports of militant presence. During an intense exchange of fire, 22 militants described as Indian-sponsored were killed.

In another encounter in South Waziristan, 13 more militants were killed by the forces. Weapons and large quantities of ammunition were recovered from their possession. ISPR said the group was involved in several terrorist activities in the region.
