Integrated planning essential as state cannot afford annual loss of lives, property: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir

WEBDESK: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, visited flood-affected areas in Kasur and Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan, on Saturday to review the situation and ongoing relief work.

The Field Marshal visited a flood relief camp and held discussions with the civil administration. Punjab’s Chief Secretary and senior officials were also present.

During a briefing, he was informed about rescue and relief operations. Speaking on the occasion, the COAS stressed the need for good governance and inclusive, people-focused development. He said urgent steps, including infrastructure projects, were required to protect people from repeated flood disasters. “The state cannot afford to lose precious lives and property every year,” he said.

He underlined the importance of joint efforts between the military and civil administration to support flood-hit communities. He assured the affectees of continued assistance in their resettlement and rehabilitation. Flood victims thanked the Pakistan Army for timely help in a critical time.

Field Marshal Munir also met troops, Rescue 1122 staff and police officers taking part in relief operations. He praised their dedication, high morale and round-the-clock service despite tough conditions.

The Army Chief later carried out an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in both Lahore–Kasur and Multan–Jalalpur Pirwala to assess the scale of damage. He was received by Corps Commanders of Lahore and Multan on his arrival.
