Web desk: A man has been taken into custody in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for sharing indecent TikTok videos while dressed up as a woman.
Police identified him as Abdul Mugheez, a resident of Bamkhel village, who was accused of making inappropriate clips in female clothing and posting them online.
Officers said the content was disturbing for the community and was causing unease.
Swabi DSP Ijaz Abazai and SHO Saidul Amin of the Swabi City Police Station stated that the man had been producing videos while dressed in women’s clothing and “striking controversial poses,” which triggered public outrage.
SHO Amin added that Aamir Khan, who heads the Bamkhel police outpost, tracked down the suspect, a resident of Bamkhel, and placed him under arrest.
Police register FIR under section 294 of the Pakistan Penal Code
According to police, Aamir Khan, in charge of the Bamkhel post, carried out the arrest after receiving reports.
An FIR was filed under Section 294 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with obscene acts or words in or near public places and carries a penalty of up to three months in prison, a fine, or both.
The police spokesperson said the accused admitted his actions after arrest and promised not to repeat them.
Crackdown launched against TikTokers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Officials added that police have recently launched a crackdown on social media users producing objectionable material, with cases being registered under both cybercrime laws and the Penal Code.
They noted that some of these TikTokers had built huge online followings while engaging in such “heinous activity.”
TikTok faces scrutiny, content removal in Pakistan
TikTok has repeatedly come under scrutiny in Pakistan for allegedly spreading indecent content.
The platform has already faced bans in the country several times. In July this year, TikTok confirmed it had removed more than 24 million videos from Pakistan alone for breaching community rules.
