President Zardari grants 180-day sentence cut to prisoners on Eid Milad-un-Nabi

Web desk: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special remission of 180 days for prisoners across the country on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).

The concession has been granted under Article 45 of the Constitution after consultation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The federal cabinet had earlier suggested a 100-day remission. However, following discussions, both the President and Prime Minister agreed to extend it to 180 days.

According to the announcement from Aiwan-e-Sadr, this relief will only be given to prisoners who fulfil the legal conditions. The criminals who have been convicted of murder, terrorism, spying, or major financial crimes will not benefit from the remission.

Extending his greetings to the people of Pakistan and the entire Muslim Ummah, President Zardari called on the nation to live by the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He described 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal as a historic day that brings joy and devotion to Muslims worldwide.

He added that this year also marks the completion of 1,500 years since the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), reminding everyone to follow the Prophet’s universal principles of justice, compassion, brotherhood, and peace.

The President further said that the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provides guidance for overcoming today’s challenges. He emphasised that the Muslim world can find solutions to its problems through Seerat-un-Nabi.
