Web desk: US President Donald Trump suggested on Friday that India and Russia may now be leaning closer to China, after their leaders appeared alongside President Xi Jinping at a summit earlier this week.
Posting on his Truth Social account, Trump shared a photograph of Xi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi together, writing: “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”
The meeting took place in the Chinese port city of Tianjin, where Xi welcomed more than 20 leaders of non-Western nations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
During the gathering, Putin and Modi were seen holding hands as they walked towards Xi, before the three leaders stood together for photographs.
When asked about Trump’s remarks, India’s foreign ministry spokesperson in New Delhi declined to comment. Efforts to reach officials in Beijing and Moscow for a response were not immediately successful.
Relations between Washington and New Delhi have strained under Trump, with trade disputes and other issues straining ties. Meanwhile, Modi has shown signs of easing relations with China.
Earlier this week, Trump voiced frustration with Putin, saying he was “very disappointed” in the Russian leader, though he downplayed concerns about Moscow’s growing partnership with Beijing.
PM Shehbaz’s visit to China
Before, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif witnessed China’s biggest military parade on Wednesday. He was among 26 world leaders in Beijing. The large-scale event highlighted China’s rising strength and military discipline, drawing worldwide focus to its strategic clout.
Before this, Pakistan and China renewed their interest in enhancing the iron-clad, all-weather strategic cooperative relationship by increasing the level of cooperation, reflecting the intensity of their bilateral relations.
In a meeting held at the Great Hall of the People, the Chinese President, Xi Jinping and the Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, discussed the relationship between the two countries and agreed that it was unique and unmatched, which, they said, was manifested in their increased cooperation.
