Punjab imposes Section 144 to ensure wheat, flour supply

WEBDESK: The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour, and bread.

According to an official statement, all feed mills have been banned from using wheat for 30 days. The decision was taken to prevent a possible shortage of wheat and ensure it is only used for human consumption.

A spokesperson for the Home Department said that, under the notification issued by the Home Secretary, wheat can now only be supplied to flour mills for the production of flour.

The spokesperson added that feed mills in Punjab currently hold 104,184 metric tonnes of wheat and had planned to use it for poultry feed. However, the government stressed that wheat is a basic food item for humans and must be prioritised for flour production.

The ban on feed mills will remain in place for one month.

Rain is also expected in parts of Punjab during the same period. Cities including Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Multan, and Dera Ghazi Khan may receive thunderstorms and showers from September 6 to 8.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, and the Potohar region are also forecast to receive rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
