Rawalpindi: General Sir Charles Roland Walker, Chief of the General Staff of the United Kingdom Army, held a detailed meeting with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday, focusing on expanding bilateral defence cooperation and regional security.
Discussions on Shared Strategic Interests
During the meeting, both commanders discussed a wide range of issues, including mutual interests, emerging security dynamics, and measures to enhance military collaboration between the two countries. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region and agreed that continued institutional engagement would help strengthen strategic understanding and operational coordination.
Acknowledgment of Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Role
General Walker lauded the Pakistan Army’s sustained efforts and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, noting its significant contribution to restoring regional peace. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in promoting stability and cooperation across South Asia.
Ceremonial Welcome and Tribute
Earlier, upon his arrival at GHQ, the visiting dignitary was received with full military honours. Upon arrival, he laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada to pay homage to Pakistan’s martyrs. Later, a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented him with a guard of honour.
The visit underscores the growing emphasis on defence diplomacy between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, as both nations seek to deepen collaboration in security, training, and counterterrorism efforts.
Ex UK Cheif recognition of Pakisatn’s Role in Counter-Terrorism
Last year General Sir Patrick Nicholas Sanders, the then Chief of the General Staff of the United Kingdom Army, met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
During the meeting, General Sanders acknowledged the Pakistan Army’s significant contributions and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He appreciated its efforts to promote peace, stability and regional cooperation through sustained counterterrorism operations.
