WEBDESK: United States President Donald Trump said on Monday he will file a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times. The case will be for defamation and libel.
The announcement came days after the newspaper published articles linking Trump to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Last week, Trump had warned that he would take legal action.
“Today, I have the great honour of bringing a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He accused the paper of lying about him, his family and his businesses. He also claimed the newspaper has targeted Republican-led movements such as America First and Make America Great Again (MAGA).
Trump said the lawsuit will be filed in Florida but gave no further details.
The New York Times has not yet responded to requests for comment.
