Taliban announce their position on a potential US attack on Iran

Web Desk: Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that the Taliban government would provide support and cooperation to Iran in the event of a US attack, but only if Tehran formally requests it.

Speaking to Iran Radio’s Pashto service, Mujahid outlined the Taliban administration’s position amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran.

He emphasised that while the Taliban is willing to assist Iran within its capabilities, any action would be contingent on a direct appeal from Iranian authorities.

“If the United States attacks Iran, the Islamic Emirate will assist and cooperate with Iran to the extent it can,” Mujahid said, clarifying that such support would only follow an official request from Tehran.

The remarks indicate a clear alignment with Iran during a period of regional uncertainty.

Mujahid also asserted that Iran had triumphed in its recent conflict with Israel and expressed confidence that the country would succeed in any future confrontation with the United States.

“Iran emerged victorious in the previous war with Israel, and if a conflict occurs between America and Iran, Iran will prevail again,” he said.

This statement comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East and highlights the Taliban administration’s shifting approach to foreign relations since returning to power in 2021. While the group has sought engagement with regional actors, its latest comments are likely to draw scrutiny from Washington and other international stakeholders.

Overall, the statements reflect changing regional dynamics, with Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership signalling diplomatic solidarity with neighbouring powers.
