Sydney: Babar Azam, Pakistan’s prolific batter has been assigned a unique jersey number by Sydney Sixers ahead of Big Bash League (BBL) season 15.
This move was announced by the franchise on Tuesday, through its social media platforms. It showcased the star Pakistan batter at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground.
For this season the franchise has introduced a creative variation. The 30-year-old will sport 056 this season. The batter is widely associated with the number 56.
BBL had already honoured Babar Azam before this. The created a special fan zone for him “Babaristan”. It was also announced on social media before the Big Bash League officially began.
The caption used on social media was “Introducing Babaristan: A Fan Zone Like No Other”.
According to Sydney Sixers they are “We’re celebrating cricket culture like never before with Babaristan, a brand-new Sixers fan zone dedicated to welcoming one of the world’s greatest cricketers, Babar Azam,”.
While Babar Azam said “I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success, building a strong connection with the fans, and sharing this experience with my friends, family and supporters at home in Pakistan. It’s an exciting opportunity to play in one of the world’s best T20 leagues and to be a part of such a successful and respected franchise,”.
