Web Desk: Federal government has announced a temporary waiver of motorcycle ownership transfer fees in Islamabad, aiming to ease the financial burden on citizens amid rising fuel prices.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the fee exemption will remain in place for one month, allowing residents to transfer motorcycle ownership without any charges.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Naqvi said the move forms part of a broader public relief initiative led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He added that the decision is intended to provide direct financial support to citizens, particularly as fuel costs continue to rise.
Moreover, motorcycles remain a primary mode of transport for many in the capital, making the relief measure significant for daily commuters.
Meanwhile, authorities have taken administrative steps to facilitate the expected increase in applications. Director General Excise Irfan Memon confirmed that residents can now complete motorcycle transfers at excise offices without paying any fee during the waiver period.
To manage higher footfall, the excise department has extended office operations to 24 hours. In addition, officials have set up extra service counters to streamline the process and reduce waiting times.
The initiative comes as the government seeks to cushion the impact of rising petroleum prices on households. By removing transfer costs, authorities aim to indirectly support those who rely on motorcycles as an affordable means of transportation.
While the measure is temporary, officials say it reflects a broader effort to introduce targeted subsidies and ease cost-of-living pressures in urban centers.
Further announcements related to public relief are expected as the government continues to respond to economic challenges.
