Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard’s Year as Roommates
On the November 19 episode of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, Gaten Matarazzo revealed that he and co-star Finn Wolfhard actually lived together for an entire year while shooting Stranger Things Season 5 in Atlanta. Initially, Matarazzo said, it felt like a “college experience,” but over time, the apartment became increasingly chaotic. Clothes piled up, dishes stacked, and both actors admitted to shrugging off any attempts to clean.
Matarazzo joked that the situation became so extreme that they would panic whenever someone considered visiting: “Do not come 10 feet to our home.” He added that eventually, they managed to pull themselves together once the mess became impossible to ignore. On who was the messier roommate, Matarazzo laughed, saying it was a tie they “matched each other a little bit” and let things slide.
Emotional Farewells on Set
The 23-year-old also reflected on the emotional final days of filming. Having joined the show at age 12, he appreciated the gesture of including the cast’s parents on the last day, describing it as “weird” but “fun,” and likening it to a graduation ceremony. He and his co-stars Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, and Caleb McLaughlin admitted that shooting the finale was more emotional than expected. Finn shared that a single line in the script brought him to tears, prompting Matarazzo to comfort him on set.
Final Season Release Dates and Anticipation
Netflix has announced that the fifth and final season will premiere in three parts. The first four episodes will be released on Thursday, November 27, at 1 a.m. UK time. Fans will then wait until Boxing Day for the next three episodes, culminating in the epic finale on New Year’s Day.
