WEBDESK: Sikh protesters staged a demonstration outside the Indian Embassy in Washington on India’s Independence Day.
Carrying Khalistan flags, the demonstrators surrounded the embassy building. They raised slogans of “Down with India” and “Modi the killer”. Protesters also tore pieces of the Indian flag and threw them outside the mission.
The Indian diplomatic staff, reportedly alarmed by the protest, called in the police. Security forces remained on the scene for several hours.
Dr Sandhu, head of the Khalistan Council, addressed the gathering. He announced that a Khalistan Referendum would take place in Washington the following day, with thousands of Sikhs expected to vote. He said thousands of Sikhs will come to Washington on 17 August for the Khalistan Referendum. He added that the day is near when Indian Punjab will be free and Khalistan will be created.
He added that the day was not far when Indian Punjab would be freed and become Khalistan.
In another event the Modi government is pushing ahead with a new deal with France to produce more of the aircraft after the failure of Rafale fighter jets in Operation Sandur,
According to The Times of India, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has begun the process of acquiring additional Rafales to address a shortage of squadrons. The Air Force has expressed full support for the government-level agreement with France.
