Former Pakistan Test captain and legendary all-rounder Wasim Akram, widely known as the “Sultan of Swing,” has strongly responded to false rumors circulating on social media about his death.
In a message shared on social media, Akram criticized those spreading fake news about his passing, saying such rumors are often created by people seeking cheap publicity.
Now in his sixties, Akram said he is currently recovering from a cold and flu. He also thanked his fans for their prayers and concern for his health and well-being.
He urged people not to believe unverified reports circulating online.
False reports of Wasim Akram’s death spread widely across social media on Saturday before being dismissed by the cricket legend himself.
Wasim Akram’s wife, Shaniera Akram, has also expressed great concern reports and AI-generated (AI) videos circulating on social media claiming that Wasim Akram had died of a heart attack.
Responding to the rumours, Shaniera shared a new video on social media showing Wasim Akram working out at a gym.
In the video, the former Pakistan captain is seen performing various exercises, including cable pulldowns, pull-ups, and barbell floor presses. At the end of the clip, he looks at the camera and smiles.
Shaniera wrote alongside the video that she was sharing it in response to the fake news and AI-generated videos circulating online.
“As you can see, he’s at the gym and absolutely fine,” she wrote.
After Shaniera’s video, fans expressed relief, confirming that Wasim Akram is safe and in good health.
It is worth mentioning that Wasim Akram, the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, is widely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history. Nicknamed the “Sultan of Swing,” he played a key role in Pakistan’s historic triumph at the 1992 Cricket World Cup. Since retiring from international cricket, he has remained involved in the game as a coach and cricket commentator.
