The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the captain of Pakistan’s ODI team. The left-arm fast bowler will lead Pakistan in the three-match One-Day International series against South Africa, to be played at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad from November 4 to 8.
Shaheen’s appointment for the series was made today after a meeting in Islamabad, which was attended by white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, director high performance Aqib Javed and members of the selection committee.
The 25-year-old fast bowler has played 66 ODIs and 92 T20Is for Pakistan, in which he has taken a total of 249 wickets. In 32 Test matches, which does not include the ongoing second Test against South Africa at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Shaheen was able to get 120 wickets.
Shaheen has previously led Pakistan in five T20 International matches against New Zealand in 2024.
