Pakistani armed forces successfully pushed back a planned Khawarij attack on an Army post in North Waziristan late Saturday evening, officials confirmed.

According to initial field reports, the Khawarij opened fire on the post around 6:40 p.m., using small arms and under-barrel grenade launchers from multiple directions — north, west, and southwest. The attackers were believed to be operating from locations 200–400 meters away.

Swift Response by Security Forces

Troops deployed at the Army post immediately returned fire, engaging the Khawarij with precision. Snipers took up vantage points, while aerial reconnaissance and quick-reaction forces were activated to locate and neutralize the assailants.

“Fire from the hostile positions was effectively silenced,” a security official told reporters, adding that surveillance drones and mortar teams provided real-time targeting support.

Confirmed and Suspected Casualties

At least one Khawarij was confirmed killed and another injured when they attempted to approach the outer perimeter of the Army post from the direction of Sarai Mosque.

Further aerial and mortar strikes on fleeing groups are believed to have hit one additional Khawarij, with three to four others wounded, according to early intelligence assessments.

Situation Under Control

The exchange of fire subsided by 7:50 p.m., and the area has since been declared secure. No losses were reported among security personnel. Nearby units, were placed on high alert as a precaution.

Continuous aerial and ground surveillance remains in place to ensure that no hostile elements re-emerge in the vicinity.

Background

North Waziristan has witnessed sporadic Khawarij activity in recent months as remnants of extremist networks attempt to regroup. Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations (IBOs) to prevent cross-border infiltration and ensure lasting peace in the region.
