Pakistan cricket team head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has said that although the players have performed poorly during the tour of England, he will not put all the blame on them following the team’s disappointing performance and batting struggles.
Speaking to reporters at the end of the second day of the Lord’s Test, Sarfaraz said this is their team and that Pakistan’s best players are part of it. He said the team’s problem is that when the batting performs well, the bowling tends to struggle.
He said Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel and Salman Ali Agha have also produced good performances, but are currently not scoring runs. As head coach, he stands by them. He added that after the series, they would sit down, discuss the situation and decide who should be retained and who should be dropped.
Sarfaraz acknowledged that there are problems with the batting, saying the players are good individuals and are working very hard, but unfortunately the results are not going in their favour. He said the team must accept that Pakistan’s cricket team is a professional side, and if it wants to maintain an international identity according to global standards, the players must perform.
He added that the players need to return to first-class cricket and work on their weaknesses, calling this essential. Regarding the team’s overall performance, Sarfaraz said that as head coach, he takes full responsibility and will not blame anyone.
