Web Desk: New details emerged today regarding a failed U.S. rescue mission in Iran where the military lost two advanced aircraft during an attempt to recover a downed pilot.
US media reports indicate that two MC-130J Commando II transport planes became trapped in soft ground while landing at a defunct Iranian airbase. Consequently, American forces had to destroy the multi-million dollar aircraft to prevent sensitive technology from falling into enemy hands.
The U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command values each aircraft at over 100 million dollars. This loss represents a massive financial blow to the Pentagon, as these specialized planes play a critical role in clandestine warfare.
Lockheed Martin specifically designed the MC-130J for high-stakes missions, including the infiltration and exfiltration of elite troops in hostile territory. These aircraft feature advanced sensors and defensive systems to evade heat-seeking missiles and radar detection. Furthermore, the planes can fly at low altitudes and refuel other helicopters mid-air to extend mission range.
Equipped with digital avionics and powerful turboprop engines, the MC-130J typically operates under the cover of night. Each plane carries a specialized five-person crew and maintains a flight range of approximately 3,000 miles.
Despite these high-tech capabilities, the rugged terrain of the abandoned landing strip proved insurmountable. This incident adds further complications to the ongoing conflict, as officials investigate the mechanical and environmental factors that led to the mission’s failure.
