WEBDESK: Rain is already falling in different parts of Lahore as the 9th spell of monsoon begins, raising fears of flooding in low lying areas, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned.
Rain Forecast for Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and Other Punjab Cities on Aug 30–31
According to the forecast, rain will continue in Lahore and also hit Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin from 30 to 31 August.
Central and southern Punjab may also be affected between 29 and 31 August. Cities likely to receive rain include Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan. Authorities fear that heavy showers could flood low-lying areas.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall is expected between 29 and 31 August. Malakand and Hazara divisions face a risk of landslides. Rain is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Kohat, and Bannu.
The PDMA has also issued a flood alert for rivers and streams, warning of severe thunderstorms and heavy rains across much of Punjab.
This 9th monsoon spell, starting Friday, will continue until 2 September. Showers are forecast in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Gujrat. Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur are also expected to receive rain.
Authorities have also urged people to be vigilant and not to travel unnecessarily during the rains in Lahore and those within the flood risks.
