At least 8 women were killed and 76 others injured when the roof of a building collapsed in Chak 125-P, Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, during the distribution of financial aid under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred on Monday when more than 200 women had gathered on the roof of a retailer shop to receive their BISP installment. The roof, unable to bear the weight, gave way, causing the tragic accident.
Rescue efforts and hospital care:
Teams from Rescue 1122, Edhi Foundation, and other relief organizations quickly reached the site and transported the injured to hospitals. The injured women were shifted to Shaikh Zayed Hospital, where an emergency response was immediately put in place.
Commissioner Bahawalpur, Musarrat Jabeen, visited Shaikh Zayed Hospital, checked on the patients, and reviewed the medical facilities provided.
According to the commissioner, 76 women were injured, and 8 women lost their lives in this tragic accident. Investigations into the cause of the roof collapse are ongoing, and the injured are receiving the best possible medical care.
