University of Health Sciences Lahore, in collaboration with the Pakistan Martial Arts Association, has launched a large-scale self-defense training program for female students across the Lahore Division. The initiative aims to promote sports at the grassroots level and empower youth, especially girls.

Workshops are currently underway in Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Kasur, where more than 2,500 students from 30 schools have already received training. The program uses martial arts as a structured sport to improve students’ physical fitness, agility, and mental resilience, while also equipping them with essential self-defense skills.

The training sessions are being conducted under the leadership of chief trainer Anwar Mohiuddin, with expert coaches focusing on modern martial arts techniques, discipline, and defensive skills.

Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore stated that the initiative reflects the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, which aims to provide self-defense training to every girl in Punjab. He described it as an important step toward building a safer and stronger society.

Director Research and Development, Professor Dr. Sidra Saleem, emphasized that self-defense education is essential for the growth of the younger generation, enabling them to move forward with confidence and independence.

Chief trainer Anwar Mohiuddin added that martial arts is not just a sport but a life-saving necessity, and due to the overwhelming response from students and parents, the program will be expanded nationwide.

Educational institutions and social circles have widely appreciated the initiative, calling it a significant milestone for women’s empowerment and safety.
