Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours but backed out of its commitments during the final stage of negotiations.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Mohsin Naqvi said that the KP government had agreed to reconsider the Police Act 2026 in view of the security situation, take a clear stance against terrorist groups, support the national policy regarding Afghan refugees, and dismantle Afghan camps in the province.

He said that terrorists were to be prevented from operating freely or finding safe havens in the province. The TTP, TTA and all other terrorist groups were to be unequivocally condemned, while the national policy regarding Afghan refugees, including their repatriation and the dismantling of Afghan camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was to be supported.

Mohsin Naqvi said that the KP government had also agreed not to have any contact with the Interim Afghan Government and to provide substantial funding for counterterrorism operations and the police.

He said that the provincial government had agreed to take full provincial ownership of counterterrorism measures and strengthen cooperation with the Armed Forces, while also making decisions regarding counterterrorism in former FATA and the merged districts. The KP government had also agreed to implement the National Action Plan.

The Interior Minister made it clear that during the final stage of negotiations, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government backed out of these commitments. He said that at a time when the province is facing a state of war, security matters should not be politicised.
