Rs1.5 billion Proposed for Hepatitis C Elimination Program

Details of the development budget for the health sector for the upcoming fiscal year have also emerged.

A total allocation of Rs22 billion has been proposed for both ongoing and new health projects. Only Rs140 million has been earmarked for drug control, while Rs500 million is proposed for the National Population Action Plan.


According to budget documents, funding has been proposed for 21 ongoing and 12 new health sector projects. An allocation of Rs2.64 billion has been suggested for the new projects.


The proposed budget includes Rs1.2976 billion for the Islamabad Cancer Hospital and Rs1.5 billion for the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis C Elimination Program.


An allocation of Rs1 billion has been proposed for the Prime Minister’s Diabetes Prevention Program, Rs1.83 billion for the development of an Integrated Disease Surveillance System, and Rs19.36 billion for ongoing national health projects.


The budget also proposes Rs1.298 billion for Islamabad Cancer Hospital, Rs1.5 billion for the Jinnah Hospital Poly Clinic project in Islamabad, Rs1 billion for the Infectious Diseases Laboratory at the National Institute of Health, Rs500 million for the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre Islamabad, and Rs1.5 billion for the expansion of stroke and critical care facilities at PIMS.


Additionally, Rs1.5 billion is likely to be allocated for the procurement of equipment for Islamabad Cancer Hospital, Rs2 billion for the Prime Minister’s National Health Program, Rs500 million for HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis control programs, and only Rs500 million for the National Population Action Plan.
