Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has tasked the CCD with the responsibility of eliminating illegal weapons and has ordered a comprehensive campaign against weapon culture after Eid-ul-Fitr.
For the first time in Punjab, a comprehensive act to curb weapon exhibitions and illegal use has been prepared.
The Chief Minister approved the The Punjab Surrender Illicit Arms Act 2026, which includes provisions for the confiscation and destruction of all types of illegal weapons. Even keeping antique weapons at home will require a special permit.
After the implementation of the new act, all illegal weapons must be surrendered to the CCD within a specified period. Licensed gun owners will also need to justify a valid reason for retaining their weapons.
Strict penalties have been proposed for those who fail to surrender illegal weapons within the designated time.
By implementing strict laws like The Punjab Surrender Illicit Arms Act 2026 and launching a post-Eid campaign to collect illegal arms, the government aims to promote peace, reduce violence, and protect the lives of the public across the province.
