On Friday night, there was an unexpected turn of events. For Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and Senator Irfan Siddiqui. PML-N Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed that doctors transferred the minister to a private hospital in Islamabad. When his health rapidly declined.
The senator was in such critical condition that doctors placed him in the Intensive Care Unit. His family memebers have informed that his condition is critical but he is not on ventilator support yet. “Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s condition is critical, May Allah grant him complete health,” the minister wrote. He updated the public on hospital admission of senator on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The minister made the comments just hours before the Senate’s scheduled session to discuss the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill. The ruling PML-N might face difficulties in obtaining the required 2/3 majority for the passage of the law. As every single vote is important. Siddiqui’s absence on such a critical occasion would not be easy for PML-N to manage.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui also serves as Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is also a parlimanetary leader for PML-N in the upper house. Apart from his political crown, he was also a columnist and an educationist. He was also a close aide to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Siddiqui was arrested in Islamabad in 2019 under the tenancy law for reportedly renting out his house without informing the authorities, which created a political storm at the time, igniting discussions in the government and the opposition.
PML- N leaders and followers have been active on social media with messages and prayers for his recovery, while Party sources say that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has shown great personal concern for the health of Siddiqui and has directed that the necessary medical attention be provided.
