Islamabad: Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation on the current regional situation and announced a series of austerity measures.
He condemned the attacks on Iran, expressing deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Ali Khamenei, his family members, and innocent Iranian citizens.
He also strongly condemned attacks on Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, saying such attacks threaten regional peace. He affirmed that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with these nations and considers their security part of its own.
Addressing the economic situation, the Prime Minister noted that global crude oil prices have surged from $60 to over $100 per barrel, and Pakistan’s economy heavily relies on oil and gas imports from Gulf countries. He said difficult decisions were necessary, as the government cannot control international oil and gas prices. Measures taken aim to reduce the energy crisis and stabilize the economy.
