Indian forces have arrested 15 Pakistani fishermen from the sea, while the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has urged the government to take up the matter diplomatically for their release.

According to the Forum’s spokesperson, the 15 fishermen from Sujawal district, belonging to the Kori Creek waters, were detained yesterday along with their boat while fishing.

The Forum said that repeated arrests of Pakistani fishermen by Indian forces are a blatant violation of human rights. They go to sea only to earn a livelihood but end up becoming victims of border disputes.

Fisherfolk leaders have strongly demanded that the Government of Pakistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately raise the issue at the diplomatic level and ensure the release of the arrested fishermen.
