NDMA issues high-level flood alert for Sutlej River in Punjab
According to statement by the NDMA, at 6AM today, the flow from the hurricane increased to 1,22,890 cusecs. The flow at Ganda Singhwala is continuously increasing; the flow may reach 1,20,000 cusecs, while the flow at Head Sulemanki is likely to reach 100,000 cusecs. The flow may increase further due to heavy rains from August 23.

In KP, a few strong thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon, but it will be less hot with some sunshine. In Karachi, the weather will be partly to mostly cloudy with chances of thunderstorms, according to the weather forecast.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy rains, flash floods and landslides in different parts of the country on the evening and night of August 23 and August 24.
It says that heavy rains may trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Manshera, Abbottabad, Charsadda and Nowshera. Additionally, in Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan with nearby areas.
The PMD added that intense storms could also cause urban flooding in low-lying parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan.
Landslides and mudslides may block roads in vulnerable hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir during the forecast period.
Strong winds, heavy rainfall, lightning and thunderstorms may damage fragile structures such as kacha houses, rooftops, billboards, electric poles, solar panels and vehicles.
The department has advised the public, including tourists and travellers, to avoid unnecessary movement in risky areas and keep themselves updated on the latest weather information.
According to the forecast, widespread rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Upper and Central Punjab. And in Gilgit-Baltistan, Potohar region and Islamabad, with isolated heavy falls in some districts during the evening and night.
Scattered showers are also likely in South Punjab, parts of northeast and south Balochistan, and southeast Sindh.
Pakistan weather update: regional forecast
The following is the expected weather for tomorrow, as per the PMD’s forecast.
Sindh weather
Most districts of Sindh will remain partly cloudy and humid. However, rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Tharparkar, Umer Kot, Mirpurkhas, Mithi and Badin during the evening and night.
Balochistan weather
The province is likely to see partly cloudy and humid conditions overall. Rain and thundershowers are forecast in Barkhan, Zhob, Musakhel, Quetta, Ziarat, Loralai, Sibbi, Kalat, Lasbela and Khuzdar during the evening/night.
Punjab weather
Partly cloudy and humid conditions will persist in many districts. Rain-wind/thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls at night, are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and Gujranwala. Additionally, in Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal.
Isolated showers are also likely in Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Nankana Sahib, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather
The PMD has predicted widespread rain and thundershowers across the province, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Buner, Haripur, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera.
And in Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Orakzai, Khyber, Waziristan, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan. At times, heavy to very heavy downpours are expected in the upper districts.
Islamabad weather
The capital and adjoining areas will remain cloudy with rain and thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls are expected during the night.
Kashmir weather
Cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershowers is expected in Kashmir, along with chances of heavy falls in the evening and night.
Gilgit-Baltistan weather
The region is likely to experience cloudy skies and rain-wind/thundershowers during the forecast period.
Pakistan’s weather in the past 24 hours
Rain-wind/thundershower was recorded in several parts of central and lower Sindh. While scattered showers occurred in coastal Balochistan, Kashmir and upper KP.
South Sindh also saw isolated heavy falls. Other areas remained hot and humid.

- Sindh: Tando Jam 89, Tharparkar (Kaloi 70, Diplo 52, Nangarparkar 20, Islamkot 14, Dhali 5), Hyderabad (Airport 44, City 39), Karachi (Korangi 24, Faisal Base 23, Airport Old Area 18, Gulshan-e-Hadeed 16, Saadi Town & University Road 15, Kemari 18, Masroor Base 13, DHA 12, Nazimabad & Orangi Town 10, Surjani Town & Gulshan-e-Maymar 5), Mirpur Khas 11, Badin 10, Chhor 3.
- Azad Kashmir: Muzaffarabad (City 14, Airport 10).
- Balochistan: Pasni 6, Ormara 4, Lasbela 1.
- Punjab: Lahore City 5.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Balakot 2.
The hottest places recorded were Nokkundi and Dalbandin at 44°C and Chillas at 43°C.
Pakistan weather update: tourist advisory
From Saturday to Wednesday, cloudy weather with rain, thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls is expected in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Dir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Ziarat and the surrounding areas may also see showers over the weekend, with partly cloudy weather from Monday onwards.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged people to take precautions, including avoiding flooded roads, staying away from electric poles, and handling appliances with care.
Residents of low-lying areas have been advised to improve drainage around their homes and keep emergency kits ready with food, drinking water, flashlights and first aid supplies.
