Web desk: Today’s forecast suggests that much of the country will see partly cloudy skies with rain, wind and thunderstorms, according to the latest Pakistan weather update.
Showers are expected across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, northern and southeastern Balochistan, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan.
In some places, particularly Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Kashmir and Upper Punjab, heavy downpours are expected.
According to the synoptic situation, a seasonal low lies over central Balochistan, while moist air from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is entering both the upper and southern regions of Pakistan. A westerly wave is also impacting the northern areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings that:
- Flash floods may hit streams and nullahs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Potohar, D.G. Khan/Koh-e-Suleman and northeastern Balochistan.
- Urban flooding is likely in low-lying parts of northeastern Punjab, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera and southeastern Sindh.
- Landslides and mudslides could block roads in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir.
- Strong winds, heavy rain and lightning may damage weak structures such as Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
The public, travellers and tourists are advised to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary exposure and keep track of the latest weather alerts.
Pakistan weather: regional forecast
Balochistan weather
Mostly hot and humid weather is expected. However, rain and thunderstorms are likely in parts of Zhob, Musakhel, Mastung, Loralai, Kohlu, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibbi, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Khuzdar, Awaran, Ormara, Pasni and Lasbela. Heavy showers could hit some of these places.
Sindh weather
Most districts will remain partly cloudy and humid, but rain, wind and thunderstorms are possible in Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Thatta, Hyderabad, Badin, Dadu, Khairpur, Nausharo Feroze, Larkana, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Mirpur Khas and Karachi. At times, heavy rainfall may occur in Tharparkar.
Punjab weather
Showers with thunderstorms are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Sahiwal, Layyah, Bhakkar, Taunsa, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur and nearby districts. The Potohar region may experience very heavy rain.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather
Rain with thunder and wind is expected at places including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kurram, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, D.I. Khan, Hangu and Waziristan. Localised heavy showers are also forecast.
Islamabad weather
The capital and its surroundings will likely remain cloudy with rain and thunderstorms, with chances of heavy showers.
Kashmir weather
The weather in Kashmir is forecast to be cloudy with rain, thunder and wind, along with chances of heavy downpours.
Gilgit-Baltistan weather
Similar conditions of cloudy skies with rain and thunder are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, with heavy showers at isolated spots.
Weather advisory for tourists in Pakistan
Tourist spots including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Murree, Galliyat, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Gilgit, Hunza and Skardu are likely to receive cloudy weather with rain, thunder and wind from Monday to Friday. Very heavy rainfall may occur sometimes.
This could trigger landslides, mudslides and flash floods in streams, causing road closures and travel disruption. In Ziarat, partly cloudy weather with rain is expected on Monday, followed by dry conditions until Friday.
The Met Office has urged residents, visitors and authorities to remain on high alert, especially in low-lying and hilly areas, where flooding and landslides may disturb daily life.
