Pakistan finalise playing team for second Test

Ubaid Shah likely to replace Khurram Shahzad or Mohammad Ali

Pakistan are likely to make two changes to their playing team for the second Test against England.

According to sources, Babar Azam will return in place of Azzan Awais, while Ubaid Shah is likely to replace Khurram Shahzad or Mohammad Ali. The second Pakistan-England Test will begin tomorrow.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference at Lord’s, Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam said no player is indispensable and that whoever the team needs will play. He said the team would use the best available players.

Babar Azam said they would assess the pitch today before deciding on the final combination. He added that the final playing team would be decided later and that responsibility rests with the entire team.

He said that if the bowlers take 20 wickets, the batters also have a responsibility to score runs. Those who are not performing will be given confidence and support. He said there is no burden on the senior players, but they do have responsibility, adding that the team must step up and perform. He stressed that it is not only Rizwan’s responsibility; everyone must perform.

Babar said Pakistan would try to maintain their winning momentum at Lord’s. He acknowledged that they did not play well in the first Test and had discussed their shortcomings. He added that Salman Ali Agha had been the second spinner in the first Test and that Abdullah Shafique should continue to bat at the position where he has been playing.
