New Zealand won a test series in England for the fourth time by wrapping up a 160-run victory in the third test at Trent Bridge on Monday, bringing an end to the international career of home captain Ben Stokes.
Resuming on 103-4 and chasing an unlikely 373 to win, England was dismissed for 212 soon after lunch on Day 5 as New Zealand clinched the series 2-1.
Today’s contest closely resembled the event of England’s defeat when England had been crumbled to a 160-run defeat against a professional and well-drilled New Zealand outfit at Trent Bridge.
Jamie Smith’s 60 runs could not save the hosts from defeat, while Ben Duckett scored 36 and captain Ben Stokes was also dismissed for 36.
For New Zealand, Zaib took three wickets, while Nathan Smith and Mitchell Santner claimed two wickets each.
Ben Stokes retired at the end of the match against New Zealand. The all-rounder represented England in 122 Tests, while also playing 114 ODIs and 43 T20Is.
Stokes was a key member of the teams that won the 2019 World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. He delivered memorable performances in the finals of both tournaments.
He represented England in international cricket for 15 years.
