ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), through its National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), has issued a travel advisory for tourists after landslide alert for the JSR and Skardu-Roundu Road from July 7 to July 9, warning of possible weather-related hazards due to heavy rainfall and soil erosion.
According to the alert, the NDMA’s NEOC is ensuring timely risk assessment and the prompt sharing of information with relevant authorities. It added that the current weather conditions are consistent with the center’s previously issued weather outlook.
Travel advisory for tourists
The alert warned that rainfall and ground erosion in the northern regions could trigger landslides over the next two days in Skardu and surrounding areas, including Bromdo Nala, Chamcho, Malupa, and the Dumbudas–Tormik–Haramosh section.
The NEOC further stated that erosion in local streams and the movement of mud and rock debris could significantly increase travel risks. Travellers and tourists have been advised to exercise extreme caution on mountainous and landslide-prone routes, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from unstable slopes.
