Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East deserve global recognition, says Najam Sethi

Senior analyst and journalist Najam Sethi has expressed support for nominating Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing their role in diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace in the region.

During an exclusive interview with Karan Thapar, Sethi said the recent phase of conflict and peace in the Middle East had seen remarkable and praiseworthy contributions from Pakistan’s prime minister, Field Marshal, foreign minister and, more recently, the interior minister. According to him, Iranian leaders publicly acknowledged their peace efforts, while American officials also recognized the role played by at least two of them on numerous occasions.

Sethi also said he did not believe the India-Pakistan conflict warranted such an extraordinary nomination. However, he argued that the recent diplomatic initiatives related to peace in the Middle East reflect a historic moment with implications expanding far beyond south Asia.

He maintained that the peace efforts were not limited to welfare and stability of Gulf, Pakistan, India or the United States, but were vital to a broader global peace agenda. For that reason, he said, a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for the Pakistani leadership would be justified.

It is worth noting that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has become the focal point of global attention for his leadership and diplomatic engagement on X, with supporters and some commentators stating that his role in encouraging dialogue and peace efforts deserves global recognition, including nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

After his tireless and selfless efforts for US-Iran agreement analysts from around the globe argue that General Asim Munir has exhibited strategic vision, patience, and negotiation skills during a highly complex period of international tensions. They describe his approach as an example of combining security leadership with diplomacy to promote peaceful outcomes.

They further support this view by saying that his engagement with various stakeholders, including regional and international leadership, helped create opportunities for dialogue and confidence-building between arch rivals

Furthermore, the renowned global media outlets and leaders have highlighted his interactions with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, and say his diplomatic outreach strengthened Pakistan’s position in international affairs. They further claim that leaders from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Turkey have shown respect for his leadership and Pakistan’s role in regional stability.
