The National Motorway and Highway Police closed several motorways across the country on Friday due to dense fog, which sharply reduced visibility and made road conditions dangerous, especially in the early morning hours.
The authorities shut Motorway M-1 between Peshawar and Burhan Interchange because of very low visibility. They also closed traffic on Motorway M-3 between Faizpur and Jaranwala Interchange.
Officials further closed Motorway M-4 between Pindi Bhattian and Shershah to prevent accidents caused by poor weather. Motorway M-5 remains closed between Rohri and Multan, while Motorway M-11 is shut between Lahore Main Toll Plaza and Sambrial. Authorities diverted traffic to the GT Road, where police are present to guide motorists.
The Motorway Police urged travelers to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions and to delay their journeys until visibility improves. They also advised drivers to use fog lights, keep a safe distance, and drive at slower speeds in fog-prone areas.
Officials said they will reopen the motorways once weather conditions improve and it is safe to travel.
