Web Desk: Mixed martial arts fighter Anita Karim has made her name in the history of sports by winning the first professional women’s MMA fight in Pakistan.
The historic bout, held in Islamabad during the ‘Professional MMA League (PML) Infinite Championship’, marked a major milestone for women’s combat sports in the country. In the women’s 52 kg title fight, Anita Karim put in a stellar performance, knocking out Iran’s Parisa Shamsabadi in the first round.
The victory is also significant as it was the first time Anita Karim won a professional MMA title on her home turf, which was widely applauded by fans and athletes.
Hailing from Hunza, Anita Karim is Pakistan’s first professional female MMA fighter. She has already made a strong mark with her stellar performances in international competitions, while her recent success is being hailed as a historic moment for Pakistani sports, especially women.
Mixed martial arts is, in essence, a full-contact sport that combines techniques from boxing, grappling, karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing; as a result, it requires athletes to possess extraordinary physical strength, technical skill, and mental toughness.
Anita Karim’s journey has not been without its personal challenges. A few months ago, she revealed that she took the difficult decision to drop out of university with her parents’ confidence in her determination to pursue a career in MMA. Today, this decision has turned into a historic achievement for Pakistan, sending a strong message and inspiration to young women across the country.
