Web Desk: Business representatives in Mirpur on Saturday announced they were distancing themselves from a banned activist group, saying they support stability in the region and oppose activities they believe undermine public order and economic activity.
Speaking at a press conference at the Mirpur Press Club, traders’ representatives Azmat Khan and others said they were no longer affiliated with the outlawed Awami Action Committee, and rejected its recent policies and actions.
They said the business community represents economic stability in the region and would continue to stand for peace, public interest, and uninterrupted commercial activity.
The traders said the group had initially raised public issues and civic concerns but later deviated from that focus. They claimed the organisation had begun pursuing activities unrelated to local grievances, which they said had created unease among residents and the business community.
They further alleged that the committee’s current direction was against national interests, claiming it aligned with external agendas. However, they did not provide evidence to support these assertions.
The traders reiterated their condemnation of the group’s current approach and formally announced complete disassociation.
They said Pakistan remained their national identity and described the country’s armed forces as responsible for ensuring security and stability.
Moreover, they pledged full support for Pakistan and its institutions, stating they would not endorse any activity that could disrupt peace or affect commercial life in the region.
Despite concerns raised during the press conference, the traders confirmed that markets across Mirpur continue to operate normally and business activity remains uninterrupted.
They said maintaining economic stability was essential for public welfare and urged continued normalcy in trade and daily life.
