Mira Sethi speaks about mirage and divorce

Pakistani actor, writer, and television host Mira Sethi has said that both her marriage and divorce were her own decisions, adding that she does not hold anyone else responsible for the outcome.

The actor has spoken in detail for the first time about the lessons she learned from her divorce and the decision to get married.

Mira Sethi has appeared in several popular television dramas, including Kuch Ankahi, Mohabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai, Chupke Chupke, and Doctor Bahu.

She belongs to a well-known media family. Her parents, Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, are prominent journalists and television personalities, while her brother, Ali Sethi, is a renowned Pakistani singer.

Mira Sethi married Bilal Siddiqui in California in November 2019. However, the marriage did not last long and ended in divorce in 2023. She publicly confirmed the separation last year.

Speaking as a guest on a recent podcast, Mira Sethi discussed the lessons she learned from her divorce and reflected on her decision to marry.

She said the biggest lesson she learned was not to rely solely on her gut feeling and never to change her personality for anyone, whether it is a husband, a friend, a boss, or anyone else.

“The truth is that people often like it when you change yourself to suit them, but that is not a healthy thing to do. Those are the two biggest lessons I have learned,” she said.

She added that the experience taught her a great deal, helped her grow as a person, and made her more mature. She said she is now able to speak openly about it because several years have passed since her divorce and she has moved on with her life.

Mira Sethi also said that women in Pakistani society often face criticism after divorce or khula, with many people claiming they failed to adjust. She said there was no social pressure on her to get married, as she married relatively later than the age generally expected by society. According to her, marriage was entirely her personal decision, based on love and idealism, and she alone takes responsibility for that decision rather than blaming anyone else.
