Mining landslide claims 9 lives in Mardan, dozens trapped

In a tragic development in Mardan, at least nine people have lost their lives and several others were injured after a landslide struck a mining site in the Palodheri hills.

According to rescue sources, dozens of workers were trapped under debris when the collapse occurred during mining operations, prompting an urgent rescue response.

Authorities confirmed that nine bodies have so far been recovered, while rescue efforts continue with ambulances, disaster response vehicles, and excavators deployed to locate and pull out those still buried under the rubble.

The area is a major hub for marble extraction, generating significant revenue for the country and providing livelihoods to thousands of workers. Similar incidents have occurred here in the past, highlighting the risks faced by workers in this vital mining sector.
