Web Desk: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a comprehensive emergency advisory on Sunday, warning of severe storms, heavy snowfall, and potential landslides across upper and central regions from April 12 to 17.

The National Emergencies Operation Center confirmed that a powerful westerly wave will impact the country’s northern geography. Consequently, residents in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, and Sialkot should prepare for thunderstorms, high winds, and hailstorms beginning April 13.

Furthermore, the alert extends to several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. Forecasters expect heavy rainfall and strong winds in these areas, while high-altitude regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir face significant snowfall.

In contrast to the turbulent conditions in the north, the NDMA noted that southern regions, including Sindh and Balochistan, will remain hot and dry. Temperatures in these provinces are expected to rise further during this period.

Transitioning to safety concerns, the NDMA warned travelers and local populations that persistent rain significantly increases the risk of landslides in mountainous terrain. Authorities advised tourists to check weather conditions and road accessibility before heading to northern destinations, as slippery roads and snow may disrupt transit.

Additionally, the advisory cautioned that lightning and intense winds could damage weak structures, trees, and power infrastructure. Officials urged the public to stay indoors and maintain a safe distance from electrical installations during the peak of the storms.

To mitigate potential damage, the NDMA directed all provincial and district disaster management authorities to remain on high alert. These agencies are now coordinating emergency response teams to ensure a rapid reaction to any weather-related incidents throughout the week.
