Lahore finalizes venues, safety measures for Basant festival

LAHORE: Authorities have finalized venues and safety arrangements for the Basant festival in Lahore. The Basant Festival will take place from February 6 to 8.

According to reports, several locations has been selected for Basant celebrations. The locations include Jallo Park, Greater Iqbal Park, Gulshan Iqbal Park, Jilani Park and Model Town Park.

Reports further suggest that Basant activities may be allowed in parts of the Walled City. The officials also said that the administration will be enforcing a complete ban on the use of wire, metallic string and chemical coated kite strings during the festival.

A strict action will be taken against the violators by the authorities. The administration to curb illegal practices will announce a reward of Rs. 5,000 for individuals reporting use of banned kite strings.

This measure aims to encourage timely reporting of violations. Which would help prevent accidents. According to sources authorities will be allowing kite flying only with traditional manja string or with weak glass coating.

To prevent the use of hazardous materials, special monitoring teams will remain active. Officials confirmed that they are in final phases of finalizing administrative and security arrangements. The safety and lives of the citizens will be protected during the festival.
