Heavy rain, thunderstorm lash KP’s Malakand

⏱ 2 minute read

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received record rains this monsoon, wreaking havoc in Buner, Swat and other parts of the province.

As per details, rain with thunder and lightning was reported in Batkhela and Alladand Dheri, Malakand today.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of intermittent rain in several districts of the province, including the Bashtar regions.

The authority has raised concerns over potential glacial lake outburst floods (Glofs) in northern districts due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

The PDMA said the residents of Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper Kohistan, Swat, and Dir have been urged to remain alert as the risk of glacier outbursts increases.

The agency has directed local district administrations to ensure constant monitoring of sensitive areas, carry out timely warning notifications, and conduct evacuation drills where necessary.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, heavy showers may hit Rawalakot, Hattian Bala, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur and nearby areas during this period. Rain is also forecast for several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, such as Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar.

Heavy rains forecast for Lahore, Faisalabad and other Punjab districts

From 16 to 19 September, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Lahore, Faisalabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura and parts of central Punjab. Heavy rain may also fall in some of these areas.

In Sindh, hot and dry weather will prevail in most districts, although the coastal belt will remain partly cloudy. Balochistan will also see partly cloudy and humid conditions.

Meanwhile, light rain fell early this morning in parts of Karachi, including I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar and Garden, bringing brief relief from the humid weather. For the next 24 hours, Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy with humid conditions, with temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. The lowest temperature recorded in the city during the last 24 hours was 27°C.

This marks the 11th spell of monsoon rains in Punjab, where alerts have been issued. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also warned of possible glacial lake outburst floods in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the forecasted rain.
