Web desk: An explosion has occurred in a firecracker warehouse on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi, injuring 34 people as per the latest reports.

According to police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed Tariq, the total number of injured has risen to 34.

The explosion shattered the windows of surrounding buildings and ignited a fire.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, Farrukh Raza, says that the explosion in the firecracker warehouse occurred in District South. The East Police is providing all possible assistance to the Predi Police. SSP East Farrukh Raza says that assistance is being provided to relief volunteers and fire brigade personnel.

Several people were injured when a warehouse storing firecrackers exploded on MA Jinnah Road. Ten of the wounded were taken to Civil Hospital, while others received care at nearby medical facilities. Many of the injuries were caused by shards of glass from shattered windows.

The explosion, which took place in a ground-plus-two building housing both medical equipment shops and the firecracker store, also damaged nearby vehicles and shattered windows of surrounding buildings. Thick smoke spread towards the Lines Area, adding to the chaos.

Police and Rangers quickly cordoned off the site as rescue teams worked to control the blaze. MA Jinnah Road near Sea Breeze Plaza was sealed from both sides to protect the public amid fears of further explosions.

Authorities said flammable items, including oxygen cylinders, were being urgently removed to prevent a bigger disaster.

Six fire brigade and rescue vehicles remained on the scene, battling the flames while intermittent smaller blasts made operations difficult.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as smoke and debris filled the area.
