ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad seeing fighter jets with spectacular displays of flares lighting up the night sky as Pakistan Air Force (PAF) aircrafts conduct rehearsals ahead of a highly anticipated night airshow scheduled for August 13, 2025.

Netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) to share videos of the lighted-up night sky caused by flares from the jets.

Social media users initially panicked over the unusual activity, but later Twitteratis clarified that there was no need to panic, as the flares and flights were part of rehearsals for Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14.

A flypast rehearsal took place in the capital as part of preparations for the event, involving routine military drills to ensure a smooth execution on the day.

Authorities have stated that there is no cause for alarm, advising residents to remain calm despite the increased air activity and noise from aircraft flying over the city.

This year, Independence Day is being celebrated with more zeal and zest than usual.

Previously, it was announced by the Sindh Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, that this year’s Independence Day celebrations will be held under the theme Marka-e-Haq.

Speaking at a press conference alongside ministers Sharjeel Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah, the CM said that Pakistan has achieved a historic victory, and this moment must be celebrated across the country.

The celebrations will not be limited to 14 August. Instead, events will begin on August 1 and continue for 14 days. Both the federal and provincial governments will join hands to organise these activities.

“We celebrate August 14 every year,” Murad said, “but this time it must also reflect our recent success. People need to understand the true value of freedom.”

This year’s Independence Day is set to be more than just a one-day event, it’s a nationwide expression of unity, pride, and renewed spirit.

With celebrations stretching across two weeks, the focus is not only on marking Pakistan’s freedom but also on honouring recent achievements under the banner of Marka-e-Haq.

As the skies roar with rehearsals and cities prepare for festivities, citizens are encouraged to participate with enthusiasm while appreciating the deeper meaning behind the occasion.
