Inflation or exploitation? prices soar high before Ramadan

Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the demon of inflation has once again been unleashed in the country, and prices of daily-use items have suddenly gone out of control.


According to reports , even before the arrival of Ramadan, prices of essential commodities have sharply increased. In recent days, an unusual surge has been observed in the prices of vegetables, fruits, and other food items. Cooking oil, ghee, gram flour, tomatoes, potatoes, bread, eggs, bananas, apples, and several other items have become more expensive.


In Islamabad, the price of tomatoes has increased by Rs40 per kilogram in just four days and is now being sold at Rs120 per kg instead of Rs80. Similarly, the price of potatoes has risen from Rs40 to Rs50 per kg.


The price of gram flour has increased from Rs320 to Rs350 per kg. Cooking oil and ghee have also become costlier by Rs20 per kg. First-grade ghee and oil have increased from Rs580 to Rs600 per kg, while third-grade ghee and oil have risen from Rs510 to Rs530 per kg.


Prices of bread and paratha have also suddenly increased. After a Rs5 hike, bread and naan now cost Rs25 each. Khameeri naan has gone up from Rs25 to Rs30, while kulcha is now priced at Rs35.
The price of tandoori paratha and roghni naan has increased from Rs50 to Rs60.


Tea at hotels has also become more expensive, with one cup now being sold at Rs70 instead of Rs60.


Within four days, desi eggs have become Rs30 per dozen more expensive. Desi brown eggs are now being sold at Rs500 per dozen instead of Rs470.


Similarly, third-grade apples have increased from Rs150 to Rs200 per kg, while third-grade bananas have risen from Rs140 to Rs180 per dozen.
