A UK think tank says Indian nationals recorded the biggest rise in sexual offence convictions between 2021 and 2024.
The study uses Ministry of Justice data from the Police National Computer and was reported last week.
Sharp rise in Indian sexual offence and key numbers
Convictions involving Indians rose from 28 cases in 2021 to 100 in 2024. That is a 257 per cent increase.
Across all foreign nationals the rise was 62 per cent over the same period. Other steep increases were reported for Nigerians Iraqis Sudanese and Afghans.
The analysis also said Indians ranked third for serious crime convictions with a 115 per cent rise since 2021.
Whereas, Pakistani’s in UK showed a smaller increase in sexual offence convictions over these years which is also considered alarming by the authorities.
How the data of Indian sexual offence were compiled?
The figures come from court conviction records on the Police National Computer.
In addition, the think tank Centre for Migration Control compiled the nationality totals.
Whereas, Indians also emerged in the data as the second-largest group to receive study visas from the UK administration.
Similarly, the largest ethnicity to get work and tourist visas to the UK despite highest conviction rates.
Policy moves to curb Indian sexual offence in UK and next steps
The report arrives as immigration enforcement tightens. Recent Home Office statistics show more people entering immigration detention this year than last year.
For Pakistan the data underline the need to keep verification strong and protect communities while avoiding stigma.
Legal experts in both countries say background checks and early reporting can help prevent harm and support victims.
Authorities in London are expected to publish more granular updates in due course which will allow a clearer picture.
