Los Angeles Olympics cricket

The cricket competitions at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will feature six men’s and six women’s teams. The top-ranked teams from four continents—Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania—will qualify directly for the Games.

The remaining places will be decided through ICC Olympic Qualifier tournaments. The United States will qualify automatically as the host nation if it is ranked among the top 15 teams.

Qualification will be determined based on results from current ICC tournaments and the ICC Men’s and Women’s T20I rankings, while the sixth and final spot will be awarded through the ICC Olympic Qualifier events. Each qualifier tournament will feature eight teams, with the schedule to be announced by the ICC at a later date.

For the women’s event, Australia, India, Great Britain and South Africa have already secured direct qualification on the basis of their performances at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

At the Olympic Games, the six participating teams will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will then play crossover matches against teams from the opposite group. The top two teams in the final standings will compete for the gold medal, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will face each other in the bronze medal match.

Cricket return to the Olympics after a fleeting appearance in Paris 1900 was confirmed when the proposal to include it was rubber stamped by the International Olympic Committee’s members in October 2023 in Mumbai.
