Web Desk: Sindh government has announced an additional public holiday for the Christian community, extending official closures beyond Christmas Day, while authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed winter holidays for the University of Peshawar.

Extra holiday approved in Sindh

According to a notification issued by Sindh’s Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, December 26, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday across the province. As a result, all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, public corporations, and local councils will remain closed on that day.

However, the notification clarified that staff assigned to essential services will continue to perform their duties to ensure uninterrupted public operations.

Meanwhile, the provincial government reiterated that December 25 will remain a public holiday in Sindh in observance of both Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas. The holiday will apply to all government and semi-government institutions, corporations, and local councils under provincial jurisdiction.

Holiday schedule reaffirmed

In a separate notice, the Sindh government formally reconfirmed December 25 as an official holiday for the dual observance. Officials said the move reflects the province’s commitment to recognizing religious diversity while maintaining established national commemorations.

Winter holidays announced in Peshawar

Separately, the University of Peshawar has announced its winter break, offering temporary relief to students and staff during the colder months. According to an official notification, the university will observe winter holidays starting December 22, with closures covering all academic and administrative departments.

However, the administration noted that examinations and academic assessments will continue as per the pre-approved schedule. University officials said the decision aligns with the institution’s seasonal academic calendar.

Classes and routine administrative activities are expected to resume on January 3, following the conclusion of the winter break.
