Web Desk: Several districts in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province will close all public and private educational institutions on Monday, Oct. 12, with authorities also postponing examinations in some areas.

The closures come amid heightened political and security developments in the province following the federal government’s announcement of emergency measures and governor’s rule.

The Peshawar deputy commissioner ordered the closure of all government and private schools, colleges and universities across the district on Monday.

According to the notification, the decision applies to all educational institutions operating within Peshawar district.

Authorities in neighbouring Nowshera also announced a one-day closure of public and private educational institutions, including schools and colleges. All examinations and papers scheduled for Monday have been cancelled.

Similarly, educational institutions across Mardan district will remain closed on Oct. 12. Authorities have also postponed all examinations scheduled for the day.

Meanwhile, officials in Charsadda and Swabi announced that all government and private educational institutions would remain closed on Monday.

The measures affect both public and private-sector institutions and are expected to disrupt the academic schedule across several districts.

In Abbottabad, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has postponed matriculation examinations that were scheduled to begin on Monday.

The board’s examination controller said a revised date sheet would be issued shortly.

The education closures come as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces significant political uncertainty.

The federal government has announced the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures in the province, while Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has reportedly been taken into custody.

The developments have added to tensions in the province, which has faced persistent security challenges and political instability.

Against this backdrop, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has summoned a meeting of the provincial Apex Committee for Monday.

The meeting is expected to consider measures aimed at strengthening efforts against terrorism and improving the province’s security situation.

Officials are likely to discuss the prevailing law-and-order situation and other security-related matters as authorities seek to maintain stability across the province.
