WEBDESK: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert as rivers across the province are seeing rising water levels due to heavy monsoon rains and melting glaciers.
Punjab rivers see low to medium flooding: PDMA
The Indus River is at medium flood level at Kalabagh and Chashma Barrages, while Tarbela and Taunsa Barrages are at low flood level. The Sutlej River is at low flood at Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki, with water flow reaching 68,000 cusecs at Ganda Singh Wala.
Nala Basantar and Plakho in Punjab see low level flooding
The Chenab River is at medium flood at Khanki and Marala headworks, with low flood continuing at Nala Plakhu. The Jhelum River is flowing normally at its key points, and the Ravi River remains at normal flow at major locations, though low flood continues at Nala Basantar.
Tarbela Dam at 98 per cent and Mangla Dam at 68 per cent capacity amid flood alert: PDMA
Tarbela Dam is currently filled to 1,547.94 feet, or 98% of its capacity, while Mangla Dam stands at 1,211.15 feet, or 68% of its total capacity.
The PDMA Punjab Director General, Irfan Ali Kathia, urged residents to follow safety measures, cooperate with authorities during evacuation if necessary, and avoid swimming or recreational activities near rivers, canals, nullahs, and ponds. He also advised keeping children away from water bodies and contacting the PDMA helpline at 1129 during emergencies.
Officials are closely monitoring river levels, warning that flooding may continue in certain areas. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow official instructions for their safety.
Meanwhile, PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported that cloudbursts and flash floods over the past 48 hours have claimed 307 lives and injured 23 people across the province.
