Dhaka: Fresh evidence has surfaced linking India’s RAW to the killing of Bangladesh student leader Osman Hadi. Osman Hadi was shot last week. Police said two attackers carried out the shooting while riding a motorcycle.
Newly surfaced footage shows the suspected shooters at Dhaka Railway Station on December 13. Another video shows the same suspects entering Bangladesh from the Indian border on December 6. Authorities say the footage strengthens suspicions of a cross-border link. Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
Osman Hadi Targeted in Mosque Attack
Hadi, a key figure in last year’s uprising that ended former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s rule, was attacked by masked assailants on December 12 while leaving a mosque in Dhaka. He was flown to Singapore for advanced medical care but died from his injuries on Thursday. The 32-year-old was also a candidate in the upcoming February 2026 parliamentary elections.
Mass Protests Grip Dhaka
Following his death, thousands of supporters of the July Oikya movement staged road blockades and marched toward the Indian High Commission, calling for the suspects’ extradition. Protesters also set several buildings ablaze, including offices of major newspapers, with some staff trapped inside, officials said.
Body Returns and Mourning Declared
Hadi’s body arrived in Dhaka on Friday evening aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG 585, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:49 p.m. Authorities declared a one-day state mourning on Saturday, with funeral prayers scheduled after Zuhr at Manik Mia Avenue.
